Delicious food. Can be a long wait. They do have ac. That's new. Very casual and pretty loud place but the food is very authentic
Temporarily closed for remodeling until Aug 26. Looking forward to the updated look. This 85 character min for a review is annoying.
WOW so glad I found this spot ! Work around the area had a longer lunch break so naturally looked for a lunch special found this spot tucked away in a plaza amongst other businesses and restaurants . This restaurant faces the street, there's plenty of parking but it seems to get packed. Walked in got seated right away , there was a couple people already seated but it was not to packed . Decided to get the kungpoa beef that comes with rice , broccoli, and a drink . YUM my gosh the kung pao beef was so good , the beef was perfect , meat quality on point , sauce was perfect and they do not shy away from the peanuts ! Broccoli was very flavor ! The lady was so sweet as well , came back a second time same food quality so definitely will be coming here to try other dishes & their dumplings !
This place is delicious. I went here many years ago before they renovated the inside and now it looks and feels much cleaner. Highly recommend the Shanghai noodles, string beans, and the pork potstickers. The noodles are not oily and have a great texture, as do the vegetables and the potstickers. Potstickers are handmade and have a very nice texture and flavor. Their beef noodle soup on the lunch special is delicious too. The best part is the service is excellent - all the workers are friendly and take pride in their work.
Our order: Hot and sour soup-1/5. Only taste like vinegar, no other flavor. Lacks depth and flavor. Shredded pork with bamboo- 5/5. Tender and flavorful pork! The bamboo was good too, but some were a bit rough to eat. Shanghai rice cakes- 5/5. Loved it! Nice and chewy texture with great flavor. Beef chow fun- 5/5. Everyone's favorite! Perfectly balanced in flavor, not too salty, and the beef was so tender! Salt and pepper shrimp- 1/5. Too salty. Eggplant with basil- 3/5. This was okay. I love eggplant, but I probably wouldn't order this again. All this plus rice for $98, but they charged gratuity since there were 5 adults and 2 year old that barely touched his food. So, the total was about $128, including a $20 gratuity tip (which we didn't agree on, but it is what it is).
Our family celebrated a birthday tonight by ordering many family favorites : French style beef was very tender you could slice it with a fork. Typhoon style crispy battered shrimp is crunchy and topped with fried garlic pepper and black beans - this topping is delicious with leftover rice the next morning . Tried Taiwanese style noodles for the first time-thin yellow egg noodles sautéed with lot of vegetables and mushrooms in it , not the usual saucy type of noodles - will get this again. Hot and sour soup seems milder this time. Simply tossed with garlic, Taiwanese lettuce or yu choy is delicious. Chicken and salted fish fried rice was served with a load of chicken. Chong Qing fried chicken is chopped pieces, each one had a nice crunch and chili spice level was very pleasant. We got two smaller lobsters without noodles, which came with lots of chopped onions and peppers. Complementary hand wipes for afterwards. Fish fillet in chili oil also has some braised Napa cabbage slices for a little crunch since the fish is very tender. Very tasty food. Servers introduced each dish as It was brought out. Steamed rice and teas are not included anymore . A surcharge for parties of 6 or more is added. Very popular for family style meals - the three large round tables were always occupied as we had dinner. Handicap accessible toilets were clean. Spacious parking. They sell their own peanuts and frozen dumplings as well. Sue and the other workers here are very friendly, will explain the menu items and make recommendations to round off the entire meal.
The house special soft shell crabs were amazing!! I can eat that with white rice all day, everyday! It was just crispy and so flavorful. Their crispy beef chow mein isn't very good. I think the crispy noodles were already friend and package noodles but the fresh egg noddle that most places fry as you order.
Hadn't been back to Canaan in possibly a decade but it's still tried and true. Affordable Taiwanese comfort food. The steamed dumplings were not quite xiao long bao--I'm not sure if they were trying to be but they weren't really "soupy". Beef chow fun for the kid was good but not remarkable. Highlights were the salt and pepper pork chop and the seafood and tofu hot pot. Both were quite tasty. Everything was a bit "onion forward" as wifey would say, not overpowering but maybe a little unnecessary. Service was attentive and quick. Restaurant was as you expect for a Taiwanese restaurant--fairly plain but it works.
My favorite Taiwanese food place. Sue is a fantastic employee. Always services us with a smile and always helpful when we have questions about the menu. The prices here definitely have gone up and certain food items seemed to have shrunk a bit. But, it's the economy's fault. If it means I continue to get my yummy food, I will continue to support their business. My staples: Orange chicken. Stinky tofu. Boiled slice beef in spicy sauce. Soup dumplings. Flavor is always on point and my family greatly enjoys our dinner visits here.
